Moral Rot: A Global Call for Repentance

Look around. The moral rot in the world today is undeniable. Sin is running rampant, and the consequences are everywhere: broken families, corrupted governments, societies falling apart at the seams. And this isn’t something new. The Bible speaks clearly, and we need to hear it now more than ever. God’s Word doesn’t mince words. It’s strong. It’s direct. And it’s about time we stopped watering it down.

When we look at what God has said about sin and moral decay, it’s like a mirror showing us exactly where we are today. Sin is not just something people do. It’s who they are without God. In Hebrew, the word “rasha” (רָשָׁע) isn’t just about wicked actions; it’s about a wicked heart. A “rasha” is someone who lives in opposition to God’s law, someone who is hostile to the righteous ways of the Lord. It’s a moral condition—a person in active rebellion against God. And God doesn’t let such rebellion slide.

Take Psalm 1:4-6. It paints a clear picture: “The wicked are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away.” The rasha is like chaff, worthless, blown away by the wind, unable to stand. Their ways lead to destruction, and it’s not just their actions; it’s their very being. Their hearts are set on evil. And what’s God’s response to them? He’s not okay with it. He will judge them. For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.” That’s not a maybe. That’s a promise. The way of the wicked, of those in moral decay, leads to destruction.

And then there’s avon (עָווֹן), iniquity. This is moral perversity, twistedness that takes root in the heart of a person who has rejected God. It’s the opposite of God’s holiness. And the consequences of avon are just as severe. Isaiah 59:2 says, “But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.” That’s a huge warning. When iniquity grows, it creates a separation between people and God. And that separation leads to devastation. There’s no other way to put it. Iniquity grows until it leads to a broken relationship with God, and a broken relationship with God leads to a broken life.

In the Greek, hamartia (ἁμαρτία) is the word we use for sin, and it literally means to miss the mark. It’s not just an accident, a minor mistake. Hamartia is the willful rejection of God’s ways. It’s choosing to turn your back on the truth and walk down a path that leads to death. We see this in Romans 1:21-23. Paul gives a powerful description of what happens when people reject the truth: “For although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

Do you see it? It’s the same thing happening today. People have exchanged the glory of God for the things of this world. They worship their own ideas, their own desires, and in doing so, they are blinded. Their hearts are darkened. And God gave them over to their sinful desires. The decay sets in, and it doesn’t just affect individuals. It’s a rot that spreads throughout the entire culture. It’s a moral collapse. The more a society rejects God, the more entrenched in sin it becomes.

Let’s not forget the “poneros” (πονηρός) in the Greek, which refers to something evil, morally bad, or wicked. This word is strong, and it’s used in passages like Matthew 6:13, where we are told to pray: “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” The word poneros is used here to describe the evil we are to be delivered from, evil that seeks to destroy, to corrupt, and to draw people away from God. This evil is rampant in the world today, and it’s not just something that can be ignored. It’s serious. It’s destructive. And God is calling His people to stand firm against it.

When you look at Romans 1:24-32, you see the picture of moral decay laid out in detail. Paul describes a world where God has given people over to their desires, and it’s not a pretty picture. “They exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones”, a direct reference to the breakdown of God’s design for human relationships. And it doesn’t stop there. Paul goes on to say that people are filled with every kind of wickedness, greed, envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice. They’re gossips, they’re malicious, they’re violent, they disobey their parents, they’re senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. And what does God say about all this? “They are full of every kind of wickedness… They know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, but they not only continue to do these very things, but also approve of those who practice them.

This is God’s warning to us today. We are living in a world that has turned away from Him and filled itself with moral decay. And God says, “They deserve death.” This isn’t just physical death, it’s spiritual death, eternal separation from Him. There’s no middle ground here. You either choose life in God, or you choose death in sin.

But there’s hope. The same God who gave this warning also gives the path to redemption. Repentance. Turning away from sin and turning back to God. Isaiah 55:7 says, “Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.” God’s mercy is always available to those who will turn back to Him. But make no mistake—the world’s moral rot will not go unpunished.

This is the message we need to hear today. It’s time to wake up. No more pretending everything is fine when sin is consuming the world. No more sugarcoating what God has already made clear: sin leads to death, but repentance leads to life. And the world needs to know it—loud and clear. If we are not speaking this truth, who will?

Let me make this very clear. This is not a game. This is not a light matter. The world is in a state of moral rot, and the consequences are grave. We cannot afford to sit idly by, pretending everything is fine. God has spoken, and He has laid out His judgments for all to see. If you think you can ignore His truth, if you think you can live however you want without consequence, you are wrong. God’s judgment is real, and it will come. No one will escape it.

Sin is not something that can be brushed aside. God does not take it lightly. Those who live in rebellion against Him, those who continue in their sin without repentance, are heading straight for destruction. And the scariest part of it all? God will give them over to their desires. He will let them have what they want, and it will lead them straight into a pit of despair and eternal separation from Him. This is the ultimate consequence of sin, eternal death.

I don’t say this to scare you, but because this is the truth. We cannot keep sugarcoating it. The hour is late, and the world is rapidly heading toward a point of no return. You may think you have time. You may think things will get better on their own, but let me tell you this: they won’t.

Now is the time for repentance. Now is the time to turn back to God. If you are living in sin, if your life is marked by rebellion, you need to come before the Lord in humility. Repent. Turn away from the wickedness that has consumed you. Return to the only One who can save you, Yeshua (Jesus Christ). He is the only way out of this mess, the only One who can cleanse you from the moral rot that has taken over.

This is your warning. The time IS running out. Do not wait. Do not think that tomorrow will be better. The day of reckoning is coming SOON, and you must choose where you will stand.

Me? I choose GOD!!!
