BE STILL AND KNOW
Is there no one that completely trusts God anymore? Yet He is the ONLY ONE who keeps His promises!
We worry about bills coming that we have accumulated through credit cards, mail orders, doctors and more because we don’t listen and spend time with The Holy One – The Only One who can and will help us and provide for us. We turn to things and the people of this world to satisfy our needs and wants. But we are never satisfied. We still go hungry; we still want to have more, more, more! Greed… Because everyone else has what we want. This is why there is no peace today. This is why there is no much poverty and crime today.
We must turn away from this sin and obey God’s Commandments with every thing we have; everything we are. Every cell of our mind, soul and body and heart. There are only two:
Matt 22:37-40 Jesus said unto him, you shalt love the Lord you God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, your shalt love you neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
When you think of it, these two commandments are not difficult to obey. When you love God truly, you cannot help but love your neighbor – especially when you renew your mind.
Psa 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
Isa 26:3 you will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusts in thee.
God is peace! We only have to worship Him in love and in truth. He tells us He will give us all that we ask or think! But we must first love and obey him. He wants us to stop what we are doing, be still, and realize He IS God. There is nothing He cannot or will not do for us when we trust and rest in Him.
He gave us His perfect love. He gave us His only begotten Son. Jesus Christ showed us His Father – our Father, in His teachings, his life, his torture, His death, His resurrection and His assention. He did this, all to prove His ultimate love for us.
I ask you, would YOU be willing to give your only child up to your enemies, knowing that he or she would be persecuted, tortured and killed? a son/daughter whom you truly love more than anything? God did exactly that for us with His Son, Jesus!!!
We can truly rest and be at peace with Him. He is ultimately in charge anyway!
Read all of Psalm 37.
1 Pet 5:6-11 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon Him; for he cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brothren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who has called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that you have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
God told His people to turn to Him and obey His commandments over and over and over again! If they did, He would give them victory over their enemies and blessings beyond measure. Did they listen? Yes. But constantly, they would return to their old way of thinking and to sin. And they would, each time, suffer the consequences of their actions. Then they would cry out to God again, for help when things got so bad they couldn’t handle them. He always came to their rescue. He loved them that much!
Prov 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct you paths.
He loves you! He tells us to just trust Him, rest in Him and He will direct our lives.
If we come to a “fork in the road” of life, where we don’t know which path to take, we have only to ask our Lord, who knows the direction and outcome, which way to go. He will lead us by the hand guiding our every step. When we trust Him, He will not let us fall; stumble maybe, but not fall. He has His hand holding onto our belt, so to speak, and He will not let go.
When you take a little child who is just learning to walk, but thinks he is ready to run to play, you hold onto his waist strap (I used one that looped around the belt with about 4 feet of slack) so he will not go too far. God holds onto our “belt” the same way, warning us when we try to turn in the wrong direction.
Eph 6:12-19 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel
People take sedatives to get to sleep at night, or lay there “counting sheep”. If they would just count on the Shepherd, Jesus Christ, they would not only get a peaceful night’s rest, but also save the money they spent on the sedatives! God says “Be still and know that I am God!
Psa 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God…
Here are more scriptures to check out: (some repeated in this message)
Proverbs 10 compares the end of the wicked with the blessings of those who Love God.
Psa 37:23-20 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delights in his way. though he fall (stumble), he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholds him with his hand.
Job 31:3-6 Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity? Does not he see my ways, and count all my steps? If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit; Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity.
Psa 18:36 your hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.
Pro 16:9 A man’s heart devises his way: but the LORD directs his steps.
The dictionary defines the following words in ways we can pretty much understand in today’s language:
1. Trust: 1. Confidence; a reliance or resting of the mind on the integrity, justice, friendship or other sound principle of another person or thing.
God promises that when we trust in Him, He will keep us safe in all things!
Pro 29:25 The fear of man brings a snare: but whoso puts his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
Take time now to read Psalm 121 (all)
2. Safe: Free from danger, damage or injury; secure; unharmed.
Psa 119:117 Hold your me up, and I shall be safe: and I will have respect unto you statutes continually.
Pro 18:10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runns into it, and is safe.
Pro 29:25 The fear of man brings a snare: but whoso putts his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
3. Still: Definition 1 is the one we will look at: sound; calm, quiet; at rest; motionless.
Psa 4:4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
Psa 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
Know: To perceive with certainty; to understand clearly; to be absolutely sure of; well informed about.
One way we can know, is by studying.
2 Tim 2:15 Study to shew yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Because:
2 Tim 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Luke 12:12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what you ought to say. (I could tell you some stories here too! :D)
John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Take time now to read all of Psalm 112.
God wants us to study His written and oral Word so we can come into full knowledge and understanding of His will. Then, with all that knowledge, in us, He will help us to live a righteous life – in peace – in Him. What we learn, He will, by the Holy Spirit, bring into remembrance all that we have learned, such as when we are talking to another person about Him.
Testimony: My husband was working very hard at a job he loathed. He was so desperate to change jobs that he put in an application at another business where a friend of his said there was an opening. He followed up on his application a few times, but never got the job. A few months later, his friend came and told him that the boss of the business was doing unauthorized work when the place should have been closed for the night, and pocketing the money for himself. As this was a “union” shop, he was breaking “union” rules. He faced charges of theft and embezzlement.
God did not allow my husband to get that job because He knew what was going on and kept my husband from getting involved.
We may not see where God is leading us at the time, but when it is over, we can look back and see what He brought us through or kept us from doing to ourselves and others!
When we are quiet in our spirit, God can speak to us. Can you hear yourself think if there is much noise surrounding you? I think not. I know I can’t. Some people (mainly students) can study and read with their radios or televisions on, they would not be able to hear what God is trying to say to them. It must be quiet in your heart and spirit. We need to “let go and let God” take care of us.
Psa 19:7-11 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Moreover by them is you servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
When we do that, and trust God, spending time with Him in worship, prayer and study, there is nothing He won’t do for you that is according to His will.
“Trust Me. Be still. Study and know Me. I AM! He tells us this throughout His Word, through prophecies, and through people He puts in our path.
Are there times when you feel there is so much noise in your life that it causes confusion; causes you to falter in your steps? You have a savior who will remove this noise and confusion. One that you can put your complete trust and confidence in. Even your earthly bestest friend cannot save you from the torment of God’s wrath when He judges evil. Only Jesus The Christ can do this for you. Only He can give you total peace. When you trust Him, You can know beyond any “shadow of a doubt” that He cares for you.
Pro 3:11-15 My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loves he corrects; even as a father the son in whom he delights. Happy is the man that finds wisdom (God’s Word), and the man that gets understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things your canst desire are not to be compared unto her.
Pro 13:24 He that spars his rod hats his son: but he that lovs him chastens him betimes.
1 Cor 11:31-32 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
Heb 12:1-15 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest you be wearied and faint in your minds. You have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks unto you as unto children, My son, despise not your the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked of Him: For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives. If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chastens not? But if you be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are you bastards, and not sons.
Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but He for our profit, that we might be partakers of His holiness.
Now no chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, with which no man shall see the Lord: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled
Rev 3:19-22 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcomes will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says unto the churches.
To be still in Christ is to embrace a profound sense of peace and assurance in His love and presence. The exhortation to “be still and know that I AM God” invites us into a moment of quietness and reflection, where we can recognize God’s sovereignty over our lives. In stillness, we hear His voice, discern His guidance, and find solace amid life’s storms.
The words of Revelation 3:19-22 remind us that God’s love comes accompanied by correction and guidance. “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten,” speaks to His commitment to our growth. When God disciplines us, it’s an expression of His profound love. In our stillness, we are encouraged to respond, to be “zealous therefore, and repent.” This call to repentance indicates a response rooted in love, a turning back to Him who is always ready to welcome us with open arms.
When Christ stands at the door and knocks, He invites us into a deeper fellowship with Him. The promise that “if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me,” outlines the intimate relationship He desires to cultivate with us. Being still means allowing ourselves to hear that knock, to listen for the voice calling us into communion, and to respond to His invitation.
In our stillness, we also must stand grounded in Him, ensuring that our spiritual “wicks are trimmed and our lanterns are filled with oil.” This metaphor evokes the need for vigilance and preparedness in our faith. As we remain still, we are called to reflect on our spiritual state, making sure we are nourished and ready for the coming of our King. The anticipation of His return inspires us to remain steadfast, living out our faith actively while still resting in Him.
Finally, the promise to “him that overcomes” is a powerful reminder that our stillness in Christ is not passive but active in faith and overcoming the world. We are assured a place with Him, reflecting the hope and glory that await those who persist in faith. Being still is not merely waiting in silence; it is a trustful assurance that God is in control, affirming our identity as loved and cherished children of the Most High.
As the days draw closer to His return, being still in Christ is a profound act of faith, a sign of our trust in His everlasting love. In our quiet moments, we are invited not just to be still but to be assured, to let the truth of His love wash over us, and to become vessels of His grace in a world in need. We are not just waiting for the King; we are living in His presence, resting in His promises, and actively engaging in the life He has called us to lead.
