In the shadowed valley, my heart cries out,
Whispers of doubt cling like mist in the air.
The night wraps around me, a cloak of despair,
Yet, still in the silence, I search for Your light.
O Breath of the heavens, where have You gone?
The mountains tremble, the oceans roar wild.
In the turmoil, I wander like a lost child,
With questions like arrows, sharp and withdrawn.
Yet, amidst my lament, a vision arises,
Of lightning and thunder, Your power displayed.
The earth shakes beneath me, my fears laid to waste,
For You are my refuge, my strength when I falter.
In sorrow, I find You, in grief, I draw near,
Your promise a beacon, unwavering and clear.
In the dance of the storms, in the echoes of pain,
I lift up my voice, a song through the rain.
So hear my Shigionoth 1, O Eternal One,
A melody woven of battle and grace.
In anguish, I seek You; in doubt, I embrace
The love that sustains me, my hope on the run.
1 “Shigionoth” is a term that appears in the title of the book of Habakkuk. The exact meaning of the term is uncertain, but it is generally understood to refer to a type of musical or poetic notation. It is believed to indicate that the passage is to be sung or performed with a particular style or expression. Habakkuk is a prophetic book, and the mention of “Shigionoth” suggests that these verses are meant to be interpreted in a musical or worship context. The verses in Habakkuk 3 are often viewed as a prayer or song of praise to God for His power and deliverance.
