Here’s a game for ya. Something fun to do with the kids, or other adults.
Start with a simple question:
“Have you ever wondered which one to use… who or whom? It’s like picking the right shoe for your foot!”
1. Explain the difference with a story:
- Who is the doer: the one walking, talking, or praying. Think of who like a superhero saving the day!
- Whom is the one being helped, hugged, or listened to, the receiver of the action.
2. The “He/Him” test — the magic trick:
- If you can say he or she instead of the word, use who.
- If you can say him or her, use whom.
Example:
“Who is the bravest? (He is the bravest!)”
“To whom did you give your Bible? (I gave it to him.)”
3. Scripture examples to practice:
- “Blessed is the man who loves YHWH.”
- “To whom shall I cry in the night?”
- “The Lord helps who trusts Him.”
- “With whom do you share your joy?”
4. Fun challenge for the Everyone:
Make up your own Bible-style sentences with blanks for who or whom, and then test each other using the “He/Him” test.
